Adwoa Safo Criticizes NPP Over Uncommunicated Postponement of Disciplinary Committee Hearing
Former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has openly expressed her frustration with the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) disciplinary committee following an unannounced postponement of a scheduled hearing. Safo was summoned to appear before the committee over remarks she made during an appearance on JoyNews’ The Pulse, which party leadership considered a breach of an internal directive cautioning members against making statements that could incite division or discontent within the party.
Despite receiving the summons on a Sunday, Adwoa Safo showed up at the NPP headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra, on Monday, April 7, 2025, fully prepared for the meeting. Her arrival was met with a show of support, as several party loyalists gathered at the venue in solidarity. However, upon arrival, she discovered that the committee was not in session. Instead of a formal hearing, she was met by only one party official and no explanation regarding the absence of the committee.
Visibly upset, Adwoa Safo questioned the party’s lack of communication, stating, “I was summoned on a Sunday and came ready for a disciplinary hearing, only to find out there was none. Why wasn’t I personally informed of the change? Why wasn’t I contacted by phone? Many of you have my number.” She emphasized the importance of clear communication and professionalism in handling internal party matters, adding that the situation could have been managed more effectively.
Safo, a trained lawyer, underscored that a summons before a disciplinary committee implies wrongdoing. She therefore found it troubling and humiliating to be called to such a meeting, only for it to be canceled without notice. “The message being sent to the public is that I have done something wrong, and I’m here to be punished. But I arrive, and nothing is happening. What does that mean? Either the case lacks merit or hasn’t been properly handled,” she remarked.
Despite the ordeal, Adwoa Safo reaffirmed her dedication to the party and declared her readiness to appear before the disciplinary committee whenever formally invited again. She concluded by urging the NPP to take internal processes seriously and treat party members with respect and dignity.
Her statement has sparked conversations about internal communication and fairness within the party, especially concerning how disciplinary matters are administered.
