The Onua Foundation has once again brought smiles and joy to children in
orphanages across Accra with its much-loved annual event, Boafo Y3 Na. The
charity event, which took place on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at the Osu
Children’s Home, united seven orphanages in a grand celebration filled with love,
laughter, and generosity. The event offered a break from the everyday struggles
of orphaned children and gave them a moment to feel seen, supported, and
cherished.
The entire venue buzzed with excitement as children from Save Them Young
Orphanage, What a Friend We Have in Jesus Orphanage, Great Mission
International Rehabilitation and Children Homes, Great James Orphanage, New
Life Orphanage, Potters Village Orphanage, and host Osu Children’s Home came
together to enjoy a well-organized day of donations and fun-filled activities.
This initiative served as a platform not just for giving, but for building
memories that will stay with these children for years to come.
From the start of the day, the focus was clear. It was not only about giving
essential supplies but also about creating happiness. The leadership of the
foundation, headed by Alhaji Issa Monnie, made this vision known in his speech.
He said the foundation is committed to bringing joy and comfort to children who
have no one to depend on. To him and his team, every single smile was a
reminder of why they continue to organize this outreach year after year.
Donations flowed in, including toiletries, food items, clothing, and drinks.
Items such as cereals, eggs, diapers, toilet rolls, salt, washing powder, soap,
Kalypo fruit drinks, water, and Top Choco were handed over to help the homes
care for their children more effectively in the coming weeks. These supplies
came as a huge relief to caretakers who constantly struggle with limited
resources. One caretaker, who preferred to remain anonymous, shared how tough
it can be to feed and care for the children without external support. She
described the event as a major blessing.
What made the day even more special were the fun activities organized for
the children. There were games, singing competitions, rapping contests, musical
chairs, and dancing battles. A bouncing castle stood tall at the venue, drawing
laughter and endless play from the younger ones. These lighthearted moments
offered the children something they rarely get to experience—a full day of
carefree fun. A young boy from New Life Orphanage said it was one of the
happiest days of his life. He expressed how special it was to be part of
something so joyful, a feeling echoed by many others.
One of the girls who participated in a singing contest was visibly excited.
She said she felt like a superstar for the first time, and the experience was
something she would never forget. She thanked Onua Foundation and wished for
more of such events in the future. Her words touched many in the crowd,
including donors and volunteers who worked hard to make the day a success.
The event also saw strong support from the wider community. Key figures and
groups like the Greater Accra Council of Bissa Chiefs, Superior Ladies, and
Anim’s Foundation graced the occasion. Their presence showed that society still
cares deeply about its vulnerable members and is willing to take part in
meaningful acts of kindness. These partnerships are essential in helping such
projects expand and impact more lives.
Staff from all the participating orphanages expressed deep appreciation.
Many highlighted how events like these not only supply material needs but also
help boost the mental and emotional well-being of the children. They said it
gives the children a sense of belonging and helps them feel accepted and loved.
As the event came to an end, children boarded buses back to their homes with
visible excitement and smiles that told a thousand stories. They held tightly
to their donated items and carried in their hearts unforgettable memories of
joy, games, and companionship. Though the event lasted just one day, the
happiness and hope it created will remain with the children for a long time.
The organizers of Boafo Y3 Na have promised to keep the annual tradition
alive and aim to make it even bigger in the years ahead. They are also looking
forward to reaching more homes and touching more lives as part of their mission
to care for society’s most vulnerable.
