In a significant operation aimed at curbing illegal cross-border activities, the Bunkprugu Sector Command of the Ghana Immigration Service has successfully intercepted 25 bags of cocoa beans being smuggled from Kauk-Jago, a border community, to Togo. This operation underscores the ongoing commitment of the Ghana Immigration Service to combat smuggling in the region.

According to a detailed report, the interception occurred around 22:00 hours as officers acted on a credible tip-off regarding the illicit smuggling operation. The Officer in Charge, along with his Operations Commander, swiftly mobilized a specialized team of eight officers to the Kauk area to set up an effective ambush. During the operation, Immigration Officers apprehended two unregistered 'motor kings' that were transporting the 25 bags of cocoa beans.

The confiscated goods have been handed over to the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority in the Bunkprugu sector for further processing and investigation. The suspects involved in this smuggling operation have been arrested and are currently in custody, awaiting further questioning to assist in the investigation. Authorities are working diligently to uncover the full extent of the smuggling network and prevent future illegal activities along the border.

This interception is a testament to the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies in the North East Region, aiming to strengthen border security and protect the integrity of Ghana's trade. The Ghana Immigration Service continues to urge the public to report any suspicious activities to help combat smuggling and related crimes in the area.

The Ghana Immigration Service has been proactive in combating smuggling in recent months. In a similar operation, officers at the Akanu Sector Command intercepted a truckload of smuggled cocoa beans hidden in 1,115 gallons at the Ave-Havi border post en route to Togo. The truck, driven by one Ibrahim Fatawu, was stopped following intelligence gathered by security agencies. Upon inspection, officers discovered the cocoa beans hidden in the vehicle.

The Ghana Immigration Service has issued a stern warning to potential smugglers, highlighting the negative impact of such activities on Ghana's economy and the significant revenue loss they cause for the government. The Service expressed its gratitude to members of the border community for their cooperation and assistance in protecting the country's borders.

As the Ghana Immigration Service continues to work tirelessly to combat smuggling, it is essential for the public to support their efforts by reporting any suspicious activities. By working together, Ghana can strengthen its border security, protect its trade, and ensure a brighter future for its citizens.
