Newcastle United Cruise Past Leicester City with a 3-0 Victory at the King Power Stadium

Newcastle United delivered a dominant performance on Monday, April 7, 2025, with a convincing 3-0 win over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium. An early brace from Jacob Murphy and a composed finish from Harvey Barnes sealed all three points for the visitors and further deepened Leicester's relegation worries.

The match started with a bang, as Jacob Murphy found the back of the net just two minutes after kickoff. A miscommunication in Leicester’s defense allowed Murphy to pounce and calmly slot the ball past goalkeeper Mads Hermansen. It was the worst possible start for the home side, who looked rattled from the opening whistle.

Newcastle continued to apply pressure, and it wasn’t long before Murphy struck again. In the 11th minute, he picked up a pass in the box, cut inside, and curled a low shot into the far corner to make it 2-0. The quickfire double stunned the Leicester faithful, who watched on as their team struggled to find any rhythm or response.

Things went from bad to worse for the Foxes in the 34th minute when former Leicester winger Harvey Barnes added a third goal for Newcastle. The move was well-constructed, with Alexander Isak providing the assist after a swift counterattack. Barnes remained composed in front of goal, calmly placing the ball into the net and refusing to celebrate out of respect for his former club.

By halftime, the game was effectively over. Newcastle had taken control early and never looked like relinquishing it. Their midfield dominated possession, and their defense remained compact and well-organized, snuffing out any threats from a lackluster Leicester attack.

The second half offered little in the way of drama. Newcastle managed the game professionally, maintaining their shape and continuing to frustrate Leicester. Despite a few substitutions from Leicester manager Ruud van Nistelrooy in an attempt to shake things up, the home side couldn’t find a way through and failed to register a goal for the eighth consecutive home match.

For Newcastle, this win is a huge boost in their race for European football next season. They now sit fifth in the Premier League table, within touching distance of the top four. Eddie Howe praised his team’s discipline and energy, especially in the early moments of the match which ultimately decided the outcome.

On the other hand, Leicester’s nightmare continues. The defeat marks their 15th loss in the last 16 league matches and their eighth straight home game without scoring. The team now finds itself 15 points away from safety with just a few games left to play. Unless something miraculous happens, relegation to the Championship seems inevitable.

With time running out, Van Nistelrooy faces an uphill battle to rally his squad. Confidence appears to be at an all-time low, and the club's Premier League future hangs by a thread.

Meanwhile, Newcastle will look to build on this momentum as they continue their pursuit of European qualification, with fans dreaming of a strong forinish to the season.
