NCCE hosts constitution quiz for junior high schools in Nkoranza south municipal to enhance their knowledge on the 1992 constitution of Ghana and to make the students participate in governance. This will also boost their patriotism.
The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organised a quiz competition on Friday, 4th April, 2025, among Junior High Schools (JHS), on the 1992 Constitution in the Nkoranza South Municipal in the Bono East Region.
However, objective of the exercise, according to the NCCE director in Nkoranza South Municipal, Mrs. Owusu Marian, was to promote learning on the content of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.
Meanwhile, she explained that it was also a strategy and a tool to create awareness of the main values of Ghana's democratic governance to instill the spirit of patriotism and enhance student participation in governance at all levels.
There were three (3) schools that were part of the competition which includes Nkoranza Methodist JHS, Nkoranza Girls Model JHS and Saint Barnabas JHS.
According to Mrs. Marian, she revealed that the occasion formed part of the activities of the Commission to commemorate the 68th Independence celebration of Ghana, where students were to engage to bring the bear of their knowledge they had acquired with respect to the 1992 Constitution.
Mrs. Marian, the Nkoranza South Municipal Director of the NCCE at the exercise commended the participating schools for their immeasurable time and knowledge to be part of the programme despite their school's activity schedules.
She told the students that as young citizens, they had the responsibility to get involved in the development of the country as Ghana's future needs collective responsibilities.
The Director encouraged the students to attach more seriousness to civic education in their respective schools since it was an avenue to equip them with varying knowledge on discipline, patriotism, hard work, love for one another, and the country, as well as basic principles of the Constitution.
At the end of the competition, Saint Barnabas JHS emerged the winner with 50 points, Nkoranza Girls Model JHS placed second with 47 points, while Nkoranza Methodist JHS had the third place with 42.5 points.
To motivate the students, awards were given to the respective schools, with certificates of participation attached.
Owusu Mensah, who led the winning school, on behalf of the competing schools, expressed gratitude to the Commission for organising such an educative programme. They also pledged to support the activities of the Commission since it will play a vital role in improving the lives and knowledge of the students.
