President Akufo-Addo Commissions Three Modern 40-Bed Hospitals in Eastern Region
In a significant advancement for Ghana's healthcare infrastructure, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo commissioned three new 40-bed district hospitals on December 4, 2024. These state-of-the-art facilities are located in Adukrom (Okere District), Jumapo (New Juaben North Municipality), and Kwabeng (Atiwa West District) in the Eastern Region.
A Leap Forward in Healthcare Delivery
The commissioning of these hospitals is part of a broader initiative to enhance healthcare services across the nation. This project encompasses the construction of twelve 40-bed hospitals in the Ashanti, Eastern, and Greater Accra regions, along with a polyclinic in the Brong Ahafo region. The initiative aims to provide accessible and quality healthcare to communities that previously faced challenges in accessing medical services.
State-of-the-Art Facilities
Each of the newly commissioned hospitals is equipped with modern medical amenities designed to cater to a wide range of healthcare needs. The facilities include:
Out-Patient Department (OPD): Featuring multiple consulting rooms to accommodate various medical consultations.
Public Health Department: Equipped with a 36-seater waiting area, three antenatal consulting rooms, a counseling room, and offices for public health officers.
Surgical Suite: A fully equipped theatre to handle various surgical procedures.
Wards: Comprising 8-bed pediatric, male, and female wards, ensuring adequate space for patient care.
Maternity Unit: Includes four labor delivery stations, an 8-bed maternity ward, a 4-bed lying-in ward, and a 2-bed recovery room.
Additionally, each hospital provides residential accommodation with 12 units of 2-bedroom semi-detached housing for medical staff, promoting staff retention and ensuring round-the-clock medical services.
Investment in Health Infrastructure
The construction and equipping of these hospitals were made possible through a €71.5 million facility secured from Erste Group Bank AG and Česká Spořitelna a.s. The project was executed by VAMED Engineering GmbH of Austria, known for their expertise in healthcare infrastructure development.
A Commitment to Quality Healthcare
During the commissioning ceremonies, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the government's dedication to improving the health status of all Ghanaians through substantial investments in healthcare infrastructure. He urged the hospital staff and local communities to ensure the proper administration and maintenance of these facilities to serve generations to come.
Looking Ahead
The commissioning of these hospitals marks a pivotal moment in Ghana's healthcare journey, reflecting a commitment to bridging the gap in healthcare accessibility. As these facilities become operational, they are expected to significantly alleviate the burden on existing healthcare centers and provide timely medical interventions to the residents of Adukrom, Jumapo, Kwabeng, and surrounding areas.
This development aligns with the broader national agenda to ensure that every Ghanaian, regardless of location, has access to quality healthcare services, thereby improving overall health outcomes and fostering national development.
