Chiana-Paga MP Laments Total Lack of Tarred Roads in Constituency
Member of Parliament for Chiana-Paga, Nikyema Billa Alamzy, has voiced deep
concern over the severe infrastructural gaps facing his constituency,
particularly the total absence of a single tarred road across the entire area.
Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, Alamzy described the situation as a
significant developmental challenge, calling for urgent attention and
intervention.
He highlighted that Chiana-Paga is not only vast but strategically
positioned, sharing borders with several districts including Sisala East,
Builsa North, Navrongo Central, Bolgatanga Central, and Bongo. Additionally,
the constituency extends to the international boundary with Burkina Faso,
further emphasizing its importance in the Upper East Region of Ghana. Despite
these geographical advantages, the area remains underserved in terms of road
infrastructure.
Alamzy noted that running such a large and uniquely situated constituency
comes with a high demand for lobbying and development. Yet, he expressed
disappointment that the constituency still lacks a single tarred road, a basic
necessity that other regions may take for granted. According to the MP, this
lack of road infrastructure has limited economic growth, restricted access to
services, and discouraged investment in the area.
The lawmaker’s remarks have since sparked conversation among citizens and
stakeholders who are concerned about equitable development and the need to
prioritize rural infrastructure. Residents of Chiana-Paga, who rely heavily on
farming and cross-border trade, continue to face challenges transporting goods
and accessing essential services due to the poor condition of roads. The
unavailability of tarred roads also affects education, healthcare delivery, and
emergency response, especially during the rainy season when many roads become
impassable.
Calls for infrastructural development in underserved constituencies like
Chiana-Paga have grown louder in recent years as communities seek to bridge the
gap between urban and rural areas. Alamzy's advocacy sheds light on the urgent
need for balanced development that includes all regions regardless of their
location.
He urged the central government, relevant ministries, and development
partners to recognize the critical state of Chiana-Paga and include it in
future road infrastructure plans. His plea is expected to generate broader
discussions about the allocation of national resources and how to ensure all
Ghanaians benefit equally from infrastructure development, regardless of their
geographical location.
