Following Tottenham's Europa League draw with Eintracht Frankfurt, Ange Postecoglou spoke with TNT Sports. Stream the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, UEFA Conference League

Postecoglou rolled the dice late on and watched Brennan Johnson fire over before Micky van de Ven sent a close-range header onto his own foot which allowed Kaua to tip over and leave the tie finely poised ahead of next week’s second leg at Deutsche Bank Park.

“I’m resigned to the fact that the football gods have got their eyes elsewhere this year. Postecoglou grinned, referring to Spurs' extensive injury list in the winter. "They’re obviously busy with other clubs and other managers, so whatever we get we’re going to have to do it without them this year," he said. “If we can repeat that (performance) next week, and there’s no reason we can’t, we’ll give ourselves a good chance.

Frankfurt's recent home record has been mixed, with three defeats in March, despite the fact that Spurs face a challenging challenge next week in Germany. Postecoglou was encouraged by this performance, despite the fact that Tottenham's own inconsistentness has been their Achilles' heel this season. He added: “A little bit frustrated by the result obviously, but I thought the performance in general was really good from the boys.

“We conceded early which was not ideal and it was a fair strike by the lad, but I thought our response to that was really good.

“We stayed in control, we scored a good equaliser and we made them work hard in the first half so we knew in the second half, with our ability to break teams open, we would put them under pressure.

Maybe we could have used more courage, could have taken the match more to Tottenham but next week at home it will be a different game again.

“We’ve come through with a very good result and next week is there for the taking. We hope it will be a very special night that gets us to the semi-finals. “It’s an open game. We are a strong team, Tottenham is a strong team, and it's 50/50. The lads are really keen to bring success to the club, keep driving the principles of what we started this whole journey with, in terms of the football we want to play, really stick together as they have through the toughest of periods and hopefully we've worked our way into a position where we can make an impact on our season, a really disappointing season for us.

"I just think there's a real determination to take the opportunity that they've earned at this point. You will not, in my opinion, prevail in that argument of persuasion. I think John [Cross] wrote that even if we win it, I'm gone anyway. That is not mocking you; rather, it is simply expressing the general sentiment of the population. So if you're trying to use that as a motivation, you're not going to win that anyway
