MOHAMED SALAH CONTRACT: LIVERPOOL STAR'S EVOLUTION AND AGE-DEFYING NUMBERS IN PREMIER LEAGUE

Following the news that Mohamed Salah has signed a new two-year contract with Liverpool, Pete Sharland dives into the numbers to try and illustrate just how incredible the Egyptian has been this season. Not only is Salah producing at an elite level, he is doing it at an age that just simply is not normal. The only logical course of action was to extend Salah's contract. In the main, Liverpool are to be commended for realizing what would happen if Salah left and recognizing that, despite the fact that he will be 35 at the end of this contract, he is such a unique player that it is worth keeping him around, even though keeping older players is not always the most logical choice. But the data suggests it might be. This season in the Premier League, Salah has scored 27 goals and registered 17 assists for a total combined goals + assists (G+A) of 44.

Per Opta, across Premier League history only twice has a higher G+A been achieved. Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer both reached 47 in the 1993/94 and 1994/95 seasons respectively.

“This just feels almost like we’re breaking the season up into another chunk... That atmosphere is going to be electric now, isn't it?” Dave Davis added to the sense of significance. Fans and players alike shift their attention to a renewed push for the title now that Salah is secured. The facts don't lie. Salah’s stats this season underscore why Liverpool had no choice but to renew. “Mo Salah has got 27 goals and 17 assists in the Premier League alone,” Davis pointed out. “Liverpool have scored 72 goals this Premier League season. Mo Salah is more than half our goal contributions.”

In a time where every decision is scrutinised, keeping Salah became a no-brainer. “You couldn’t not renew Mo, could you? It just had to be done,” said Gags, brushing aside any notion that the Egyptian King was past his peak. The numbers show that Salah is still the standard. More Than Just Goals

The discussion pivoted to the broader impact Salah’s extension has on the club’s trajectory. As Gags noted, “This was important not only for this season and the end of this block but important for the new generation that’s about to join us.” The likes of Virgil van Dijk and Salah represent not only continuity but also mentorship.

This strategic adaptation could well extend Salah’s peak. “Imagine how many records he’s about to break,” Gags said, noting that Salah may soon surpass Harry Kane as the Premier League’s all-time top-scoring winger. “He’s going to go down in history as the greatest right winger in Premier League history.”

 Conclusion

Liverpool’s message with Salah’s extension is loud and clear: stability, ambition, and quality will define the next phase of their journey. As Gags aptly summed up, “We’re going to witness 10 years of Mo Salah… That’s just incredible.”

And now, the King’s contract is more than ink on paper—it’s a symbol. A reminder to rivals and recruits alike that Liverpool is not rebuilding—they’re reloading.
