Victor Osimhen has scored his 21st league goal of the season and his 29th in all competitions for Galatasaray in a 2–0 win over Sampunsor. The Nigerian striker, currently on loan from Napoli following a fallout over a controversial TikTok video mocking his missed penalty, is now leading the race for the Golden Boot.
Osimhen, who already has two Golden Boots to his name—including the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup where he set a record with 10 goals in 6 matches—continues to shine in Turkey. That U-17 performance earned him a move to Wolfsburg, and almost a decade later, he’s showing no signs of slowing down.
Galatasaray, now 3 points clear at the top of the Turkish Super Lig, boosted their title chances with the win—just days after eliminating fierce rivals Fenerbahce from the Turkish Cup thanks to a brace from Osimhen.
The match against Sampunsor wasn’t without drama. A ruled-out goal for offside and a denied penalty call after a handball in the box had fans on edge. But in the 14th minute, Yunus Akgün fired home a rebound from Osimhen’s shot to make it 1–0.
After a strong defensive first half, Galatasaray doubled their lead in the second when Yunus set up Osimhen with a perfect through pass, and the striker calmly slotted it home—his 21st league goal of the season.
With 7 matches left, every point counts for Galatasaray in the title race. The second half of the season has been tougher, with star winger Yunus Akgün—dubbed the “Turkish Messi”—playing through a knee injury and Coach Okan Buruk struggling to tighten the backline. But the arrival of Eren Elmalı has locked down the left-back position, while Mario Lemina has brought much-needed steel to the midfield
Now, with Osimhen in red-hot form, Galatasaray fans are beginning to believe: the title, and possibly another Golden Boot for the Nigerian striker, is within reach.
