Samuel Nartey George, Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, has officially resubmitted the controversial anti-LGBTQI bill to parliament as a Private Member’s Bill, reaffirming his strong support for the legislation.
In an interview with TV3 on April 11, the Ningo Prampram MP reiterated his unwavering stance, emphasizing the importance of government endorsement to strengthen the bill’s legitimacy and improve its chances of passing.
“I have not changed my position on the anti-LGBTQI Bill. I have laid the Private Member’s Bill before parliament. For broader legitimacy and success, it should ideally come with government support,” George stated.
He now awaits an invitation from the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee to further advance the proposal.
Meanwhile, former President John Dramani Mahama, while not outright opposing the bill, has advocated for a government-led approach.
