Economic Policy Analyst Senyo Hosi has raised serious concerns about the
ongoing conflict in Bawku, warning that if left unresolved, it could escalate into
a broader civil conflict with grave national consequences. Speaking on JoyNews’
Newsfile programme, Mr. Hosi emphasized the urgent need for a coordinated and
strategic national response to prevent further deterioration of peace in the
region.
Describing Bawku as one of the most volatile zones in the country, Hosi
noted that the situation has moved beyond regional significance and now poses a
threat to Ghana’s national stability. According to him, the recurring nature of
the unrest and the apparent failure of current strategies highlight the need
for a comprehensive and inclusive approach.
“Bawku is one of the most dangerous spots in this country. If not properly
handled, it has the potential to spark a total civil conflict,” he cautioned,
urging stakeholders to treat the situation with the seriousness it deserves.
Mr. Hosi criticized the piecemeal efforts that have been made over the
years, arguing that they have failed to address the root causes of the
conflict. He pointed out that dealing with the Bawku situation requires more
than security deployments. Instead, it demands an understanding of the
socio-economic and historical dynamics fueling the crisis.
He called on political leaders to put aside partisan interests and come
together in a unified effort to find lasting solutions. “This is not just a
regional issue. It has national implications, and all stakeholders must rise
above partisanship to tackle it,” he stressed.
Hosi further explained that beyond armed interventions, attention must also
be given to the underlying economic hardships and unresolved grievances of the
affected communities. “Beyond the guns and uniformed men, we must understand
the economic desperation and historical grievances that continue to fuel this
conflict,” he said.
The call from Senyo Hosi comes at a time when public discourse on national
security is intensifying, with many Ghanaians expressing concern over the
persistent instability in Bawku. His remarks serve as a reminder of the urgent
need for inclusive dialogue and long-term peacebuilding initiatives aimed at
restoring calm and trust in the region.
His warning underscores the importance of immediate action, as the
consequences of inaction, according to him, could be catastrophic for the
nation as a whole.
