Former President John Dramani Mahama has assured members of the Ghana Armed Forces of his unwavering commitment to improving their conditions of service. He made this promise while addressing graduating officer cadets during a ceremony at the Ghana Military Academy on Friday, April 11.

In his speech, Mahama emphasized the importance of recognizing and rewarding the sacrifices made by both active military personnel and civilian staff. He assured them that his administration would prioritize structured improvements in their welfare and professional standards. According to him, the contributions of the armed forces are invaluable and deserve proper attention and support.

“To our military personnel and civilian staff, I am committed to improving your conditions of service in a structured manner. Your dedication and sacrifices are deserving of recognition,” Mahama said during the ceremony, drawing applause from the audience.

He also addressed concerns of retired officers, giving the assurance that their retirement benefits would be paid on time to honor the roles they played in serving the nation. Mahama reaffirmed that under his leadership, no one who had served the country would be left behind.

Acknowledging the central role the armed forces play in maintaining peace and stability, the former president emphasized that equipping the military with the right tools and support systems is vital for national development. He noted that plans were in motion to ensure the military has access to the resources it needs to meet both professional and operational standards.

Mahama's message came at a time when the welfare of security services is a growing concern for many. His remarks have sparked a renewed conversation about the importance of ensuring fair treatment for the men and women who dedicate their lives to national security.

He highlighted that national development hinges not only on economic policies but also on the strength and morale of institutions such as the military. His address was widely received as a show of appreciation and forward-thinking leadership aimed at strengthening the foundation of Ghana’s defense sector.

As the ceremony concluded, the former president’s words continued to resonate with many, serving as a reminder of the critical role the military plays in national unity and progress.
