By comparison, Pelé is credited with 762 goals, while Lionel Messi is still chasing Ronaldo’s record.  Getty Images: Cristiano Ronaldo Chooses His Favorite Career Goal However, even for a player of his caliber, there are some ephemeral moments. His stunning long-range goal for Manchester United against Porto in the 2008 Champions League that won him the inaugural FIFA Puskás Award was one of those. However, Ronaldo claims that it was not his best goal. The One Goal That Stands Out Above All Others In an interview with France Football (via the All Football App) following his 700th goal, Cristiano Ronaldo revealed that Real Madrid's 3–0 away victory over Juventus in the 2018 Champions League quarterfinals was his favorite goal. That night, he scored twice—but it was the second goal that captured global attention.  “If you ask me to choose, I would say the same goal against Juventus: the overhead scored," Ronaldo said.  “It’s a goal I’ve been trying to score for years.  There, it happened at a crucial moment, in an important match, against a great team and an exceptional goalkeeper, Buffon.  "Pay attention to the height at which I pick up the ball. over 2.40 million. It is amazing. It is not because I scored it that I consider it one of the most beautiful overheads ever. In the 2018 Puskás Awards, Ronaldo's acrobatic goal finished second, behind Mohamed Salah's curled strike against Everton, which was hailed as one of the greatest goals in Champions League history. How Cristiano Ronaldo Rewired His Game It's interesting to note that Ronaldo wasn't always as good at scoring goals. During his early years at Manchester United, he didn’t reach double digits in league goals—scoring just four, five, and nine in his first three Premier League seasons In the same interview, Ronaldo opened up about how his mindset evolved as he matured: “At 19-20, I understood that football was numbers, titles, records.  not just dribbling or performance on the field. You must score in order to win something. “Scoring is the most important thing in football, after the victory of your team, but both are linked, so I evolved in the way of playing and thinking football.  I initially dribbled like I was putting on a footwork show. I realized that it was not enough.  I was required to score goals. “I was fortunate to have great teammates in Manchester who helped me understand and improve my technique.
