NASASU Decries Political Interference in National Service Authority Operations

The National Service Authority Staff Union (NASASU) has issued a strong statement condemning what it sees as increasing political interference in the internal operations of the National Service Authority (NSA). The Union raised alarm over attempts by political party foot soldiers to exert undue influence over critical administrative functions such as staff recruitment and internal transfers.

In a press release dated April 11, 2025, signed by NASASU Chairman Ayirebi Adubofour, the Union expressed serious concern about the growing intrusion of partisan interests into the Authority’s affairs. According to NASASU, such actions undermine democratic values, erode public confidence in state institutions, and threaten the independence and credibility of the NSA.

“We strongly condemn the practice of political party foot soldiers attempting to hijack the National Service Authority,” the statement read. “This phenomenon undermines the principle of democracy, erodes public trust, and compromises the integrity of our institutions.”

NASASU emphasized that all employment-related decisions and internal transfers within the NSA are legally guided by the National Service Authority Act 2024 (Act 1119), the Public Services Commission Act 1994 (Act 482), and Article 195 of the 1992 Constitution. It called on all stakeholders to respect these governing laws and allow the Authority to function professionally and independently.

Particularly referencing unrest in the Western Region, the Union appealed to the youth to remain calm and avoid actions that could disrupt the work of the Authority. It encouraged the Management of the NSA to stay firm in upholding the law and institutional standards, ensuring transparency and meritocracy in administrative processes.

The Union further urged the government to insulate public institutions like the NSA from political manipulation and called on political parties to refrain from turning the Authority into a partisan tool. It stressed that protecting the autonomy of such institutions is vital for national development and public trust.

NASASU concluded its statement by reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding the professional integrity of the National Service Authority and urged all parties—political, governmental, and civic—to respect the legal boundaries that govern public service operations.
