GES Grants Optional Easter Break for Form 2 Students in Transitional Track Schools
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that Form 2 students in Senior High and Senior High Technical Schools operating under the Transitional Track system will be granted a short break during the Easter period.
According to an official statement issued by the GES to all Regional Directors of Education, the Easter break is scheduled to begin on Thursday, April 17, 2025, and end on Monday, April 21, 2025. This break will allow students the opportunity to join their families in celebrating the Easter festivities if they so wish.
The GES emphasized that this break is optional, meaning students are not mandated to travel home. Those who prefer to remain on campus during the holiday will be permitted to do so under appropriate supervision and care. School authorities have been instructed to ensure that all necessary arrangements are made to provide a safe and supportive environment for students who stay behind.
“Students who wish to travel home and celebrate the Easter festivities with their families should be given the opportunity to do so,” the GES directive stated. However, it also stressed the importance of adhering to the return schedule to maintain academic discipline.
All students who choose to travel home are required to return to campus by Tuesday, April 22, 2025, when academic work is expected to resume without delay. The GES is urging parents and guardians to ensure that their wards return on time to avoid missing out on lessons and disrupting the academic calendar.
The Transitional Track system was introduced as part of measures to manage the double-track system in senior high schools, ensuring that classroom space and academic schedules are effectively balanced. The optional break aims to provide flexibility for students and families during festive seasons without compromising academic progress.
The GES also reminded school heads and staff to put in place adequate monitoring and supervision systems for students remaining on campus. They are encouraged to ensure that students are engaged in safe and meaningful activities during the holiday period.
By granting this break, the GES demonstrates its commitment to student well-being, family engagement, and the need for occasional rest amid rigorous academic work. The initiative is expected to boost morale and allow students to rejuvenate as they prepare for the rest of the academic term.
