A 36-year-old woman, Ruth Arthur, also known as Amina, is awaiting a court verdict after being accused of unlawfully entering her ex-lover’s room, stealing cash, and destroying property worth thousands of cedis in the Amonie community of the Aowin municipality. The Enchi District Magistrate Court, presided over by Mr. Lawrence Buanor-Buer, is expected to deliver judgment on the matter on April 23, 2025.

Ruth pleaded guilty with an explanation to charges of unlawful entry, stealing, and causing damage. The accused, who is a trader, was granted bail in the sum of GH¢30,000 with two sureties. The case has drawn significant public interest due to the emotional background surrounding it.

The prosecutor, General Sergeant Stephen Offei Asante, informed the court that the complainant, David Anni, popularly known as Nana Atopah, is an Okada rider based in Amonie. The two had been in a relationship for about two years, but the bond was severed after the tragic loss of their two-month-old child, leading to a breakup allegedly prompted by Ruth’s family.

According to the prosecution, on March 3, 2025, at around 7:10 am, while David was attending a wedding in Nyameah, he received a call from a friend alerting him that Ruth had entered his residence. David rushed home to find his room forcibly opened. Upon inspection, he discovered that the GH¢22,000 he had hidden was missing.

The prosecution also detailed that Ruth allegedly destroyed several household items including a 32-inch Hisense TV, a Binatone standing fan, Sony speakers, a master decoder, and a double-bed mattress. She reportedly extended the destruction to the kitchen, damaging a container drum and other items, bringing the total value of damages to GH¢27,019.

Police officers who visited the scene confirmed evidence of forced entry and partial burning of some belongings, including a mattress. During interrogation, Ruth reportedly admitted to the offence in her caution statement, leading to her being formally charged and arraigned.

The upcoming verdict is expected to bring clarity to the matter, which has stirred emotions within the local community. As the court prepares to deliver its ruling, many await the outcome of a case that blends elements of heartbreak, loss, and alleged revenge.
