Four suspected robbers were killed during a fierce shootout with police
along the Bekwai-Fomena Highway in the Ashanti Region on Sunday, April 14,
2025. The individuals are believed to be members of a criminal gang that has
been disturbing residents and travellers in the Adansi area for some time.
The gang reportedly mounted an illegal roadblock on the highway and began
attacking unsuspecting passengers travelling between Bekwai and Fomena. Their
activities triggered a wave of panic among commuters who quickly alerted
security officials. In response, police officers were swiftly dispatched to the
scene and engaged the suspects in a gun battle that led to the deaths of four
of the alleged robbers.
According to police, two additional suspects sustained gunshot wounds but
managed to escape into a nearby forest. A manhunt has since been launched to
track down the fugitives, with officers combing surrounding areas for any sign
of the injured suspects.
Authorities revealed that investigations are ongoing to gather full details
surrounding the incident, as well as to identify the deceased individuals. The
Ashanti South Police Command has confirmed the development and announced plans
to provide a comprehensive update at a press conference.
Residents in the affected communities, who have lived under the constant
fear of highway robberies, expressed relief and appreciation for the police’s
prompt response. The swift action by law enforcement has helped restore a sense
of security along the once dangerous route.
The Bekwai-Fomena Highway has witnessed several robbery incidents in recent
months, raising concerns among commuters and local leaders. Sunday’s encounter
marks one of the most significant breakthroughs in curbing criminal activity in
the area.
As investigations continue, the police have assured the public of their
commitment to eliminating armed robbery and ensuring safe travel across major
road networks. Officers are also urging residents to cooperate by providing any
information that may assist in the arrest of the two escapees.
