Afrobeat Star Davido Set to Drop His Fifth Studio Album "5ive" on April 18th
Afrobeat singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, is set to release his highly anticipated fifth studio album titled "5ive" on April 18th. According to Davido, the 5ive album consists of 17 tracks, including two songs that didn’t make the cut for his previous project, Timeless.
Davido has already unveiled some exciting collaborations, with features from the likes of Victony, Chike, Musa Keys, Chris Brown, Victoria Monét, YG Marley, Lojay, and many more—amounting to a total of 13 features on the album.
So far, three tracks off the 5ive album have been released: "Funds" featuring Odumodublvck and Chike, "Awuke" with YG Marley, and a solo hit sensation "Be There Still".
Interestingly, 5ive is already making waves even before its official release. According to Spotify Nigeria, the album is the first unreleased project to enter the top 10 chart—a feat that speaks volumes about the anticipation surrounding it. Davido has also teased several tracks from the album at an exclusive listening party, including "Swansea" featuring Victoria Monét.
Me, Myself And My Opinion on 5ive
As a proud Davido stan, I’m excited—and just a little emotional.
Let’s be honest—Timeless was a cultural reset. That album had bangers back-to-back. "Unavailable" ft. Musa Keys? Unstoppable. "Feel"? Timeless. But can we all agree that "Kante" ft. Fave was done dirty? But I guess we move!
Now to 5ive—this album smells like a classic already. Any project with Davido and Chris Brown on the same song is automatically Grammy-worthy in my books. And then there’s that beautiful chaos called "Funds" where Davido drops one of the hardest lines:
“Ok, girl make I show you my bank account. Tuface, I get plenty to go around"
And "Be There Still", with its flawless blend of Afrobeat and amapiano, is pure magic.
One thing I truly admire about Davido is his commitment to his African fan base. He doesn’t try to water down his sound or sing some “afrofishpie” to please global audiences. Yes, evolution in sound is good, but not when it comes at the expense of identity. Thankfully, Davido gets that. And Can We Talk About the Promotion?
This is the most peaceful album rollout I’ve ever seen—no Twitter beef, no social media drama, no loud energy. Just a man focused on his craft. That alone tells you 5ive will bang. Like seriously bang.
