Ghana will take center stage on April 21 as it hosts the official draw for the third edition of the CAF African Schools Football Championship. The Confederation of African Football has confirmed that celebrated football legends Asamoah Gyan of Ghana and Clementine Toure of Côte d' Ivoire will assist with the draw in Accra. This marks a historic moment as the country welcomes Africa' s largest youth football event for the first time.

Scheduled to take place from April 23 to 26, the tournament will feature top Under- 15 boys’ and girls’ teams from eight African nations. Alongside Gyan and Toure, other African icons including Abedi Pele, Adjoa Bayor, Robert Kidiaba, and Amanda Dlamini will be present to inspire the participating teams throughout the competition.

The championship serves as the climax of another impactful season for promoting grassroots football across the continent. The event is more than just a football tournament; it runs parallel to specially designed CAF Capacity Building Programmes. These initiatives aim to nurture a generation of future African leaders, not only on the pitch but also in various sectors of society.

The reigning champions, South Africa in the Girls’ category and Tanzania in the Boys’ division, will defend their titles in this high- stakes competition. Participating teams will not only compete for glory but also for substantial development prizes. Winners in each category will earn USD 300, 300,000 for school development projects, while the second and third- place teams will receive USD 200, 000 and USD 150, 000, respectively.

The initiative is backed by the Motsepe Foundation, which contributed USD 10 million at the launch of the CAF African Schools Football Championship in 2022. The competition represents a strategic effort to strengthen football infrastructure and promote sports development at the school level.

Ghana' s inclusion as host highlights its growing role in African sports development and creates a platform to showcase young talent. The eight qualified girls’ teams include Ghana, Benin, DR Congo, South Africa, Uganda, Gambia, Malawi, and Morocco. On the boys’ side, Ghana will face competition from Algeria, Côte d' Ivoire, DR Congo, South Africa, Senegal, Tanzania, and Uganda.

As anticipation builds across the continent, the event is set to deliver excitement, talent, and a celebration of African youth excellence through football.
