MTN Ghana has launched a year-long initiative known as “SME Accelerate” to strengthen the competitiveness and resilience of small and medium-sized enterprises across the country. Themed “Business Done Smarter, Faster, and Better,” this new programme aims to support the growth of SMEs through innovation, training, and enhanced access to opportunities.
Speaking at the official launch, MTN Ghana CEO Stephen Blewett reaffirmed the company’s commitment to empowering businesses that play a crucial role in economic growth and employment creation. He noted that SMEs are the heartbeat of Africa’s economy and need the right tools to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
Angela Mensah Poku, MTN Ghana’s Chief Enterprise Business Officer, explained that SMEs face a number of challenges, including limited access to credit and digitisation tools. She added that this year-long initiative marks a shift from previous short-term programmes, enabling MTN to maintain long-term engagement with SME owners for greater impact.
One of the highlights of the launch was the introduction of the “MTN Adwumapa Bundle,” a special package designed for women-led businesses. The bundle offers access to affordable communication services, market linkage opportunities, and dedicated support to help female entrepreneurs scale their ventures.
Margaret Ansei, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Enterprises Agency, welcomed the initiative and praised MTN for its focus on technology-driven solutions. She pledged her agency’s support to partner with MTN in enhancing SME development and promoting Ghana’s overall economic progress.
As part of the broader “MTN Accelerate” programme, the telecom giant will roll out various capacity-building sessions, leadership training for women, and business development activities for both formal and informal sector players. Market activation events and SME networking platforms are also expected to run throughout the year.
The programme will conclude with the MTN SME GROW AFRICA Awards (SMEGA Awards), which will recognise outstanding SME performance and innovation across different sectors. The awards aim to motivate small businesses to strive for excellence while promoting the visibility of high-impact enterprises.
Notable guests at the launch included international diplomats, local business leaders, and traditional authorities, all of whom expressed optimism about the programme’s potential. MTN Business continues to offer dedicated solutions such as Yello Biz, Business Messenger, SME Plus, and Microsoft 365, among others, tailored to meet the evolving needs of SMEs in Ghana.
