Kafui Danku-Pitcher, Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority, has revealed her reasons for joining the National Democratic Congress, citing the party’s commitment to empowering young people and women. Speaking in an interview on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, she shared how her decision to align with the NDC came from a deep sense of responsibility and the need to support change in Ghana's leadership direction.

Kafui explained that her frustrations with the government at the time led her to become more politically active. She initially began supporting individuals pushing for positive change in her community before officially aligning with the NDC ahead of the 2024 general election. She said her involvement stemmed from personal experience and the desire to speak out rather than remain silent in the face of growing challenges.

When asked what stood out most about the NDC, Kafui highlighted the party’s willingness to create space for women and young people in leadership. She noted that, despite decades of independence, Ghana had not seen strong national support for female leadership. She found the NDC’s encouragement of capable women, particularly inspiring and aligned with her own vision of promoting gender equality in the country.

Kafui Danku’s appointment as Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority about a month ago was not entirely unexpected. She mentioned that supporters and fans had long encouraged her to take up leadership roles. Many believed her contributions and passion for the creative industry made her a suitable candidate for public office, even predicting roles such as Minister or Deputy Minister of Tourism.

As Executive Secretary, she is now responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the Authority. She works under the guidance of a governing board chaired by a seasoned film professional. Her role focuses on implementing regulations, supporting film production and distribution, and championing the growth of Ghana’s film industry both locally and globally.

The National Film Authority plays a vital role in shaping the future of Ghanaian cinema, and Kafui Danku’s leadership is seen by many as a step in the right direction. Her involvement in politics and the creative space reflects a broader trend of influential public figures using their platforms to inspire change and advocate for inclusive development.
