Ghanaian-American singer Amaarae proudly represented Ghana at the 2025 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. Her performance on April 13 not only captivated the global audience but also placed Ghana’s music and culture on an international pedestal. Amaarae became the first Ghanaian artist to perform a solo set at the prestigious festival, marking a historic moment for the country.
Known for her unique sound and artistic expression, Amaarae used her time on stage to showcase not only her music but also that of other Ghanaian talents. She performed songs by Eazzy, Joey B, La Même Gang, and Asakaa Boys, putting a spotlight on the vibrant sounds coming out of Ghana. In the middle of her electrifying performance, she passionately shouted out Ghana, urging fans to wave the country’s flag, which was proudly displayed on stage.
Amaarae expressed her deep love for her homeland, telling the crowd, “A lotta the music you just heard is from my home country, Ghana. I love my country so much.” Her emotional tribute to Ghana and its music left a lasting impression on fans both in person and online.
One of the most striking moments of her performance came when she dramatically cut off her long hair on stage. The bold move thrilled fans and symbolized a new artistic chapter, which she confirmed by announcing her upcoming album, Black Star, set for release this summer.
Amaarae, born Ama Serwah Genfi, spent her formative years between Ghana, New Jersey, and Atlanta. Since her breakout in 2017 with the Passionfruit Summers EP, she has steadily risen through the ranks of global music. In 2023, her hit song "Sad Girls Luv Money" featuring Molly earned her the Record of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards, further cementing her status as a cross-continental musical powerhouse.
Her Coachella performance is being hailed as a defining moment in her career and a proud milestone for Ghana’s music scene. Through her artistry, Amaarae continues to open doors for other Ghanaian creatives on the world stage, blending global appeal with rich African roots.
