Army Rescues 16 Kidnapped Passengers In Plateau State

In a daring operation, troops of the 3 Division, Nigerian Army, and Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) have successfully rescued 16 passengers who were kidnapped along the Jos-Mangu road in Plateau State. The rescue operation was triggered on Sunday, April 13, 2025, around 9 p.m. when soldiers on routine patrol under Operation Lafiyan Jama’a stumbled upon an abandoned vehicle near Mararaban Kantoma in Mangu Local Government Area.

According to Major Samson Zaikhom, spokesman of OPSH, the troops immediately sprang into action, searching the nearby bushes to trace the occupants of the vehicle suspected to have been kidnapped. The kidnappers, upon sighting the troops, opened fire but were overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the soldiers, forcing them to abandon their victims and flee.

During the rescue operation, troops exploited the general area and successfully rescued all 16 abducted passengers, including six children. Some of the rescued victims sustained minor injuries during the incident and were administered first aid by the troops. After ensuring the victims' safety, the troops escorted them to continue their journey to Jos Metropolis.

Major Zaikhom stated that the troops are currently on the lookout for the fleeing kidnappers, who are suspected to have sustained gunshot wounds during the encounter. The OPSH reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property within the Joint Operations Area, while troops remain motivated to deny miscreants freedom of action.

This successful rescue operation is a testament to the bravery and dedication of the Nigerian Army and OPSH troops. The Jos-Mangu road has been a hotspot for kidnappings and banditry, and this rescue demonstrates the military's resolve to tackle insecurity in the region. The rescued passengers, who include six children, are likely to be traumatized by their experience. However, the swift action taken by the troops has undoubtedly saved lives and prevented further harm.

The Nigerian Army and OPSH have been working tirelessly to secure Plateau State and protect its citizens from the scourge of kidnapping and banditry. Operation Lafiyan Jama’a, under which the rescue operation was conducted, is a testament to the military's commitment to restoring peace and stability in the region. The success of this operation is a result of the effective collaboration between the troops and the local community.

The rescue of the 16 kidnapped passengers in Plateau State is a significant victory for the Nigerian Army and OPSH. It demonstrates their dedication to protecting lives and property and their resolve to tackle insecurity in the region. As the military continues to work towards securing the region, citizens can rest assured that every effort is being made to prevent further incidents of kidnapping and banditry.

In the face of ongoing security challenges, the Nigerian Army and OPSH remain committed to their mission of protecting the lives and property of citizens. Their bravery and sacrifice are a testament to their unwavering dedication to duty. As the situation in Plateau State continues to unfold, one thing is certain: the military will remain vigilant and proactive in the face of insecurity, working tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of all citizens.
