A new wave of trained professionals has joined the ranks of Ghana’s Customs Division as 203 senior cadet officers officially graduated from the Customs Academy in Kpetoe, Volta Region. These officers completed nine rigorous months of training that combined customs law education with intense paramilitary exercises, preparing them to serve across the nation in various Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) offices.

This significant milestone signals a renewed effort to strengthen the operational capabilities of the Customs Division, which plays a vital role in domestic revenue generation. With Ghana’s developmental ambitions deeply tied to financial resources, the graduation ceremony served as both a celebration and a solemn reminder of the responsibilities ahead.

Representing the Vice President, the Chief of Staff at the Office of the Vice President, Alex Segbefia, addressed the new officers with a powerful message that challenged them to drive transformation within the Customs Division. She urged the graduates to become the generation that turns Ghana’s Customs into a shining example for the rest of Africa.

Her words carried weight as she emphasized the connection between each officer’s daily responsibilities and the broader vision of national progress. According to her, Ghana’s journey to self-reliance hinges on public servants who recognize that every decision they make can impact the nation’s future.

The Commissioner General of the GRA, Anthony Kwasi Sarpong, commended the graduating officers for their discipline and commitment throughout the training period. He reassured them of the government’s full support as they take on the task of enhancing tax collection and customs regulation.

Brigadier General Glover Ashong Annan, Commissioner of the Customs Division, also addressed the officers, emphasizing the importance of three core values: discipline, loyalty, and professionalism. He explained that these values would not only guide their careers but also shape the public’s trust in the authority they now represent.

He reminded them that their conduct on and off duty reflects the integrity of the GRA. He also urged the officers to show dedication to the Customs Division’s mission and to uphold its standards regardless of the challenges they may face in the field.

As the country seeks innovative ways to strengthen revenue collection systems and enforce compliance, the deployment of these trained cadets marks a timely boost for the GRA. With the rising importance of border protection, trade facilitation, and tax enforcement, the fresh energy these officers bring could be the catalyst needed to elevate the Customs Division to greater heights.
