RW Bro. Dr. Nortey Omaboe Set to Become Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Ghana

The Grand Lodge of Ghana is preparing for a significant leadership transition as Right Worshipful Bro. Dr. Nortey Kwashie Omaboe is set to be installed as the next Grand Master on May 10, 2025. The ceremony, scheduled to take place at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra, will coincide with the Lodge’s 17th Annual Communication, symbolizing a new chapter in Ghanaian Freemasonry marked by unity and innovation.

Dr. Omaboe’s Masonic journey reflects a legacy of service and impactful leadership. He has held numerous senior positions within the Grand Lodge, showcasing his dedication to the Masonic values of Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth. Since 2019, he has chaired the Grand Lodge’s Finance Committee, spearheading initiatives such as the Funeral Insurance Policy in partnership with Vanguard Assurance and overseeing fundraising for the Heal Okomfo Anokye Charity Project.

Between 2019 and 2022, Dr. Omaboe served as Deputy Grand Master, where he played a key role in managing the Grand Lodge’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Under his guidance, the Lodge raised substantial support through the COVID-19 Appeal Fund to assist members across Ghana. His leadership also facilitated the successful relocation of the Grand Lodge Secretariat and participation in global Masonic discussions, including one hosted by the Grand Lodge National of France.

In his capacity as President of the Samaritan Foundation since 2018, Dr. Omaboe has revolutionized charitable operations within the Lodge. He implemented a modern IT-based contributions system and expanded support to widows of deceased members. His earlier tenure as President of the Board of Benevolence from 2013 to 2017 saw the establishment of the Lewis Fund, the Lodge’s first independent charity initiative.

A globally engaged Freemason, Dr. Omaboe has represented Ghana in Masonic forums in countries such as Côte d’Ivoire, the UK, France, and South Africa. He holds memberships in elite lodges including Masonry Universal Lodge No. 40 in Geneva and Herschel Lodge No. 1894 in the UK, affirming his dedication to international Masonic unity.

Beyond his Masonic duties, Dr. Omaboe is a highly accomplished economist and traditional leader. He earned degrees in economics and finance from Leeds and Columbia, and a doctorate in corporate strategy from Paris ISM. He also serves as Akyempemhene of Amanokrom and Mpuntuhene of Akuapem, reinforcing his commitment to cultural and community development.

His upcoming installation as the fifth Grand Master signals a visionary era for Freemasonry in Ghana and beyond.
