The Grand Lodge of Ghana is preparing for a significant leadership transition with the upcoming installation of Right Worshipful Brother Dr. Nortey Kwashie Omaboe as the Grand Master. Scheduled for May 10, 2025, at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra, this event is anticipated to usher in a new chapter of visionary leadership in Ghanaian Freemasonry.

Dr. Omaboe's rise to the top follows a longstanding record of dedicated service and excellence within the fraternity. His Masonic journey is built on a foundation of commitment to the core values of Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth. Over the years, he has held several high-ranking positions and gained a reputation for blending tradition with innovation.

From 2019, he served as the chairman of the Grand Lodge Finance Committee, where he spearheaded major reforms. His leadership during this time helped secure the Grand Lodge’s financial future through key initiatives like negotiating the Funeral Insurance Policy with Vanguard Assurance and driving the successful fundraising campaign for the Heal Okomfo Anokye Charity Project.

As Deputy Grand Master from 2019 to 2022, Dr. Omaboe played a vital role during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading the mobilisation of a record-breaking relief fund to support members across the country. He was instrumental in relocating the Grand Lodge Secretariat and actively engaged in international forums, including a notable session in France focused on the pandemic’s impact on Freemasonry.

Dr. Omaboe’s reputation for service extends beyond leadership roles. He has been President of the Samaritan Foundation since 2018, modernising its operations with a digital contribution platform and boosting support for widows of deceased members. He also led the establishment of the Lewis Fund—the first independent charitable fund under the Grand Lodge—during his term as President of the Board of Benevolence from 2013 to 2017.

Globally connected, Dr. Omaboe has represented Ghana’s Grand Lodge in delegations to Côte d’Ivoire, the UK, France, and South Africa. He is affiliated with several prestigious lodges, including Masonry Universal Lodge No. 40 in Geneva, Herschel Lodge No. 1894 in the UK, and Lodge Étoile du Ghana No. 107.

Outside Freemasonry, Dr. Omaboe is a distinguished economist and traditional leader. He holds academic degrees from top institutions in the UK, USA, and France. Known traditionally as Nana Awuku Sakyi, he serves as the Akyempemhene of Amanokrom and the Mpuntuhene of Akuapem, roles he has used to champion community development and uphold cultural heritage.
