Another UCL Night, But the Comeback? Erm… Nope.
After losing 3-0 to Arsenal in the quarterfinals at the Emirates last week, you’d think Real Madrid would have something up their sleeves—especially with all the noise they’ve been making about a "Remontada." But guess what? Not only did they go goalless in the first 55 minutes, they didn’t even register a single shot on target for David Raya to make a save.
Honestly, with all the talk about “90 minutes at the Bernabéu are very long” and the dramatic closing of the stadium roof like some mythical pre-match ritual, everyone expected fireworks. Instead, what we got was a disgraceful performance. Their only goal came from Vinícius Júnior, gifted by a rare mistake from Saliba. Omo, cho cho.
But let’s be real—you can’t completely cook Madrid. After all, they’ve won 15 UCL titles. Unfortunately, this version of Real Madrid didn’t look anything like that legendary team. It was an underwhelming display, to say the least.
Arsenal, on the other hand, were solid. Bukayo Saka and Martinelli got on the scoresheet, and Arteta didn’t even have to resort to dark arts or haram ball. Arsenal are now through to the semi-finals with a commanding 5-1 aggregate win.
Over to Inter vs Bayern Munich:
Inter are also through to the semi-finals after a hard-fought battle. Despite Bayern scoring two goals in the second leg, Inter’s 2-1 lead from the first leg gave them the edge. The second leg ended 2-2, but Inter advanced 3-2 on aggregate. Unlike Madrid, Bayern didn’t boast about a “Remontada,” and perhaps that helped them avoid even greater embarrassment.
Back to Real Madrid:
Now, for Madrid fans calling for Carlo Ancelotti’s sack—according to sports journalist Fabrizio Romano, Ancelotti’s job was hanging by a thread and heavily dependent on a Remontada against Arsenal. Well, after that disgraceful showing, if Fabrizio is right, Ancelotti can kiss his job goodbye at the end of the season. Honestly, if it were possible to fire a coach at halftime, he might have walked home jobless tonight.
One of the rumored candidates to replace him is former Madrid player Xabi Alonso, currently head coach of Bayer Leverkusen. Alonso led Leverkusen to their first Bundesliga title, ending Bayern Munich’s 11-year dominance, and did so undefeated—earning them the nickname Bayer Neverkusen.
Up Next in the Champions League:
Arsenal will face PSG in the semi-finals, while Barcelona are set to take on Inter Milan. As for Real Madrid, well… they’ll have to go back and think about their lives—especially after such a disgraceful performance.
