The Spanish official had angered Villa Park with some of his decisions during the 3-2 win over Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday, which saw Villa knocked out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage, 5-4 on aggregate.
As Sanchez walked towards the tunnel at full-time, a plastic bottle was launched in his direction from the stands, narrowly missing him.
Supporters found to have committed such misdemeanours usually face life bans from clubs - or at least significant ones - if they can be identified.
Villa were also furious that only three minutes were added as they pushed for the goal that would have taken the tie to extra-time.
Now Villa face a crucial week, with Premier League fixtures against Newcastle and Manchester City before they face Crystal Palace at Wembley for a place in the FA Cup final.
Two victories in those Premier League matches will improve Villa's chances of reaching the Champions League again next term.
Midfielder Youri Tielemans said: 'I think the recruitment in January was really good, the players coming in have been showing their level, showing a good mentality.
"I believe that when you bring in new players, it raises the level, and you can see tonight some of the quality we had, as well as obviously in other games we've had." 'So now it's up to us to keep pushing and be back next season.'
Youri Tielemans admitted their heroic Champions League failure has given Aston Villa players an extra incentive to produce a grandstand finish to the Premier League season. Tielemans scored the goal that sparked a remarkable Villa fightback against Paris St Germain that eventually fell just short of taking the quarter-final tie into extra-time.
And the Belgian midfielder says the narrow defeat over two legs against the French champions has given him and his team-mates an ever keener taste for big nights on the European stage.
He said: “After a night like this you want more, you want to be back next season. That's the aim, you always want more. We are going to give everything to do that. It's up to us to keep pushing and be back next season.”
Tielemans said he didn't 'understand’ why there was only three minutes of added time in that dramatic second leg, explaining: "Everyone was looking at each other because there had been substitutions, goals, they took time as well. To be honest, I really don't understand why it was only three minutes. It was very interesting but it is what it is."
