No Matter Who You Are, You Can't Hate Neymar De Santos Jr: The Brazilian Prince Who Never Became King

Neymar rose to prominence while playing for Santos, earning a spot in the top ten Ballon d'Or rankings even before his move to Barcelona. Honestly, everyone can testify that a fully fit Neymar is a nightmare for defenders.

While playing for Brazil against Uruguay, Neymar suffered an ACL tear—a brutal injury that has since led to a series of setbacks. After moving from PSG to the Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal, he began to struggle with recurring hamstring injuries, playing only seven games despite the massive ‘oil money’ he was paid. That said, Neymar’s name did bring global attention to Al Hilal—just as Cristiano Ronaldo, currently the most followed athlete in the world, boosted Al Nassr and elevated the entire Saudi Pro League. His presence attracted both aging stars and ambitious young players chasing the money.

In 2025, Al Hilal eventually terminated his contract. Neymar then re-signed with his boyhood club, Santos, on a six-month deal to prepare for the upcoming 2026 World Cup. Because honestly, every normal person loves Neymar Jr., and every Brazilian sees him as an idol.

Since his return to Santos, Neymar has delivered 3 assists and 3 goals, earning two Man of the Match awards. However, injuries continue to plague him. He was forced to miss out on international call-ups due to lingering pain. Just yesterday, Neymar returned to the pitch but had to be substituted after 34 minutes—leaving the field in tears from yet another hamstring injury.

Honestly, it’s heartbreaking how injuries keep denying great players the opportunities they deserve. What’s worse is how clubs and national teams overuse players like they’re machines—and when the injuries come, they’re often abandoned. No one wants to carry a “liability,” right? Yet few people are talking about how the increasing number of games is leading directly to serious injuries like ACL tears and hamstring issues.

But seriously, do you think it’s time for Neymar to retire? Honestly speaking, I still believe he has so much to offer. If his condition is properly managed—and with the right care and techniques—he might still shine.

Florian Wirtz, for example, had an ACL tear at just 18. Now 21, he's one of the best midfielders in the Bundesliga and a rising star in world football. His age definitely helped his recovery, but it’s also worth noting that Bayer Leverkusen didn’t rush him back. Neymar, on the other hand, has either been rushed or rushed himself back too soon.

Neymar deserves to play his final World Cup for Brazil—fully fit.
Get well soon, Neymar Jr: The Prince Who Never Became King.
