President John Dramani Mahama has announced a bold initiative to transform Ghana's economy by empowering its citizens with digital skills. Speaking at the launch of the One Million Coders Programme (OMCP) in Accra, Mahama emphasized the administration's commitment to changing the national narrative from one of limitations to one of limitless potential.

A New Economy for Ghana

The OMCP is a strategic pillar of the Reset Ghana Agenda, designed to equip Ghanaians with critical digital skills for the 21st century. By training one million Ghanaians in essential digital skills such as coding, cybersecurity, data analytics, and networking, the programme aims to create a knowledge-based, innovation-driven economy. This will enable the country's greatest resource – its people – to create solutions, generate jobs, and compete globally.

Investing in Ghana's Youth

At the heart of the OMCP is the belief in Ghana's young people and their boundless potential. The programme is an investment in the future of Ghanaians as coders, analysts, entrepreneurs, and tech pioneers. By acquiring digital skills, young people will be empowered to drive innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic growth.

Breaking Down Barriers

President Mahama emphasized that the national recovery would be people-centred, innovation-led, and future-focused. The OMCP is a key step in breaking down the barriers that hold Ghana back – social, economic, and digital. By providing digital skills training, the programme will enable Ghanaians to participate in the global economy and create their own opportunities.

Economic Passports

The digital skills acquired through the OMCP will serve as economic passports, providing pathways to decent jobs, entrepreneurship, and long-term socio-economic inclusion. This will enable Ghanaians to compete globally and contribute to the country's economic growth and development.

Key Features of the OMCP

- Training One Million Ghanaians: The programme aims to train one million Ghanaians in essential digital skills over the next four years.
