INSIDE THE NPP'S BLACK BOX, WHAT THEY'RE NOT TELLING YOU ABOUT 2024

In the world of politics, the old saying rings true: "He who learns but does not act is like a man who ploughs but does not sow." The New Patriotic Party (NPP) seems intent on both learning and acting, just not in the public eye.

This week, Richard Ahiagba, Director of Communications for the opposition party, announced that the findings of the 12-member committee investigating their defeat in the 2024 general elections will not be made public. The report, compiled under the chairmanship of the seasoned Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye, has been handed to party leadership in Accra, but don’t expect to see it trending anytime soon.

According to Ahiagba, this is strictly for internal use, a roadmap, if you will, to retool and refocus for the 2028 battle ahead. "It is an internal document that will guide the party’s reform process and help position us for victory in 2028," he told JoyNews. And though he admits the document’s confidentiality wasn’t formally declared, the implication is clear: this is family business.

Still, Ahiagba assured loyalists that the party won't keep its base entirely in the dark. “There are ways our supporters will be made aware of the key issues,” he said, though what those ways are remains to be seen.

The message is clear: the NPP is licking its wounds behind closed doors, but not sulking. Instead, it's strategising. After all, "A wise man learns more from his enemies than a fool from his friends."

The decision not to disclose the report might raise eyebrows among the curious public and political pundits alike. Transparency has its virtues, but so does discretion, especially when a party recalibrates after a major loss. "You don’t wash your dirty linen in public," goes another age-old truth, and it seems the NPP is living by it.

Whether this inward-looking approach will pay off in 2028 is anyone’s guess. But one thing’s certain: silence isn’t always retreat in politics. Sometimes, it’s a strategy.
