By Albert Kuzor | 17 April 2025

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Health is set to conduct an extensive four-day tour of regional and teaching hospitals across Ghana from Tuesday, April 22 to Friday, April 25, 2025. This initiative is aimed at gaining firsthand insights into the current state of healthcare delivery and developing informed strategies to enhance health services nationwide.

As part of this assessment, Members of Parliament have been grouped into three separate teams to ensure comprehensive coverage. Team One will visit Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, Nalerigu Regional Hospital, Tamale Teaching Hospital, Tamale Regional Hospital, and Wa Regional Hospital. Meanwhile, Team Two is scheduled to assess Damongo Regional Hospital, Techiman Regional Hospital, Sunyani Regional Hospital, and Goaso Regional Hospital. Team Three will cover Kumasi Regional Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Koforidua Regional Hospital, Ho Regional Hospital, Ho Teaching Hospital, and the Greater Accra Regional Hospital.

The primary focus of the tour is to assess healthcare infrastructure, service quality, and administrative effectiveness across the selected hospitals. According to David Sebastian Damoah, Director of Media Relations for the Committee, the tour will include interactive engagements with medical professionals and key stakeholders at each facility. These discussions will allow MPs to receive direct feedback regarding challenges faced in the delivery of healthcare services.

Mr. Damoah emphasized that collecting detailed accounts of operational difficulties is crucial for shaping future healthcare policies and ensuring the Committee’s oversight duties are effectively carried out. The findings from the tour will feed into parliamentary decision-making and influence national policy directions aimed at improving healthcare outcomes across the country.

Stakeholders, including hospital staff and management, are encouraged to participate actively and contribute meaningfully during the committee’s visits. The initiative also reflects the Committee’s dedication to ensuring that every Ghanaian has access to a responsive, equitable, and efficient healthcare system.

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Health holds the constitutional responsibility of overseeing the planning, execution, and review of health-related programs and policies in Ghana. Through this tour, the Committee is reinforcing its role as a guardian of public health and its commitment to accountability and progress in the health sector.
