Dr. Asah-Asante Urges NPP to Fully Implement Electoral Defeat Report
Dr. Kwame Asah-Asante, a Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana, has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to demonstrate bold and responsible leadership by fully implementing the recommendations outlined in the report from the party’s fact-finding committee on its 2024 electoral loss.
His comments came shortly after the NPP’s 12-member investigative committee submitted its report to the party’s national leadership on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. The committee was tasked with examining the reasons behind the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections and offering actionable recommendations for reform.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story, Dr. Asah-Asante praised the NPP’s initiative to reflect on its electoral performance, describing it as a necessary and praiseworthy move. He stressed that conducting such reviews is essential for any serious political party seeking to remain relevant and competitive in a democratic environment. According to him, the real challenge lies not in the compilation of the report but in the party’s willingness to act decisively on its findings.
He stated, “What they have done is commendable. After an election, it is critical for any political party to introspect—gather data, analyze what went wrong, and find ways to address both short-term and structural issues. This includes challenges at the national, regional, and constituency levels.”
Dr. Asah-Asante strongly advised against any attempt to alter, ignore, or dilute the content of the report. He warned that selective implementation or manipulation of its findings would only harm the party in the long run. “They must muster the courage to follow the report exactly as it is—without adding or subtracting. That’s the only way to be confident that they are truly on the right path,” he emphasized.
He cautioned the party’s leadership that any effort to “short-change the process,” whether by avoiding difficult recommendations or covering up systemic issues, could seriously undermine their chances in future elections. Dr. Asah-Asante concluded by urging the NPP to approach the report with sincerity and a genuine desire for reform, stating that doing so would show the party’s maturity and commitment to long-term political success.
