Greens Ghana Achieves Prestigious EDGE Certification for Sustainable Development

Greens Ghana has secured the highly coveted EDGE (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) certification from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of the World Bank Group. This recognition places Greens Ghana at the forefront of sustainable real estate development in West Africa, marking a significant achievement in Ghana’s growing green building sector. The EDGE certification, a globally recognised standard for green building practices, evaluates resource efficiency in energy, water, and materials, and rewards buildings that demonstrate exceptional sustainable design and construction.

The Greens Ghana, a trailblazer in environmentally conscious real estate, is now one of the first fully EDGE-certified residential communities in the country. This achievement is a testament to the company’s commitment to responsible building and its alignment with global sustainability goals. The certification signifies that the residential community meets high environmental standards while contributing to long-term value creation, making it a model for future-proof and climate-conscious development.

Kiran Daswani, the CEO of Greens Ghana, expressed immense pride in the achievement, calling it a milestone not only for the company but also for Ghana’s real estate sector. “We are proud to offer homes that prove sustainability and affordability can coexist,” he said. “This certification underscores the fact that responsible building practices are not only beneficial for the environment but also make good business sense.”

The Greens Ghana has incorporated several energy and resource-saving features into its design. For instance, the homes save 20% of energy consumption through passive solar architecture and energy-efficient appliances. Additionally, water-saving techniques such as low-flow plumbing fixtures and drought-tolerant landscaping have resulted in 30–40% water savings. The use of locally sourced, low-impact construction materials further reduces the community’s carbon footprint, making the project a shining example of sustainable urban living.

As climate-conscious development becomes a priority for investors globally, the EDGE certification positions Greens Ghana as a leading player in meeting the demand for eco-friendly housing. With an increasing focus on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) investments, this certification is particularly significant as it caters to the growing demand for sustainable and finance-friendly housing options.

The development aligns not only with global sustainability goals but also with Ghana’s climate resilience efforts. As the government continues to prioritise climate-conscious policies, initiatives like The Greens Ghana project help drive the nation’s push towards achieving net-zero development practices. The project is poised to expand, with its next phase already underway, following the same EDGE standards to meet the increasing housing demands of the region.

By championing green building practices, The Greens Ghana is setting a precedent for future developments in the country and beyond. The company’s focus on sustainability and resource efficiency promises long-term benefits not only for homeowners and investors but also for the broader environment, reinforcing the importance of responsible development in tackling the challenges of climate change.

This achievement positions Greens Ghana as an example of how the real estate sector can contribute positively to both economic growth and environmental preservation. As more developers embrace sustainable practices, the impact on Ghana’s real estate landscape will be profound, paving the way for a greener, more sustainable future.
