Presidency Reassures Nigerians: Governance Continues Despite Tinubu's Absence
In a press release, the Presidency has revealed that despite President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's absence from the country, governance is still proceeding smoothly.
This was disclosed by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, via his official X (formerly Twitter) page. His statement follows growing concerns from Nigerians, including members of the opposition, over the President’s absence amidst worsening insecurity that has plunged parts of the country into chaos.
President Tinubu departed Nigeria for Paris last week. While no official reason was initially provided for his sudden departure, speculation has been rife — especially given the 1trend among Nigerian politicians to travel abroad for medical reasons due to the deplorable state of the country's healthcare system, which many of them have failed to reform.
However, the Presidency has denied reports that the President traveled for health-related reasons, clarifying that his trip was for official engagements.
In his update, Bayo Onanuga revealed that the President had left Paris and arrived in London over the weekend. He added that Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, after the Easter holiday.
