Security Agencies Engage With Rivers Communities To Safeguard Pipelines And Critical Assets

In a bid to protect pipelines and other critical national assets in Rivers State, security agencies have initiated discussions with local communities. The Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, disclosed this in a statement issued by the command's Spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, in Port Harcourt.

According to Adepoju, the security agencies involved in the initiative include the Police, Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). The engagement aims to prevent potential attacks on national infrastructure in the area, particularly in Gokana Local Government Area.

The state’s Sole Administrator, Vice Adm. Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), had directed security agencies to collaborate with relevant individuals and groups to sustain the existing peace in the state. Adepoju emphasized that federal assets within the communities are shared heritage, and it is the collective responsibility of all stakeholders to protect them.

There have been instances of individuals attempting to vandalize pipelines, and the security agencies are collaborating with the communities to protect these assets by encouraging them to provide credible intelligence. The security agencies have established communication channels to listen to residents' concerns, align their grievances with ongoing security operations, and escalate them to the appropriate authorities.

Adepoju stated that the security agencies are committed to promoting dialogue, strengthening community-based mechanisms, and protecting all critical infrastructure within Rivers. The initiative demonstrates the commitment of the security agencies to work with local communities to prevent attacks on critical national assets.

Prof. Gospel Kpee, Sole Administrator of Gokana LGA, has promised that the people of Gokana would partner with the government to preserve peace and security in the area. This partnership is crucial in preventing attacks on pipelines and other critical infrastructure.

The engagement between security agencies and Rivers communities is a welcome development. It highlights the importance of community participation in security matters. By working together, security agencies and local communities can prevent attacks on critical national assets and promote peace and stability in the region.

The initiative also underscores the need for a multi-agency approach to security. By involving various security agencies, the government can leverage their strengths and expertise to protect critical infrastructure. The collaboration between security agencies and local communities is essential in preventing attacks and promoting security in the region.

The security agencies' engagement with Rivers communities has several benefits. Firstly, it promotes dialogue and strengthens community-based mechanisms. Secondly, it enables security agencies to gather credible intelligence from local communities. Finally, it helps to prevent attacks on critical national assets and promotes peace and stability in the region.

In conclusion, the security agencies' initiative to engage with Rivers communities is a commendable effort. By working together, security agencies and local communities can protect critical national assets and promote peace and stability in the region. The initiative demonstrates the commitment of the security agencies to promote dialogue, strengthen community-based mechanisms, and protect all critical infrastructure within Rivers.

The success of this initiative depends on the continued collaboration between security agencies and local communities. The government must ensure that the security agencies work closely with local communities to gather credible intelligence and prevent attacks on critical national assets. By doing so, the government can promote peace and stability in the region and protect the nation's critical infrastructure.
