Federal Government Pledges Support For Nigerian Artistes

The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, has pledged to support Nigerian artistes with funding and infrastructure development across the country. The Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, made this announcement during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the ministry and Chocolate City Group in Abuja.

Musawa noted that industry activities have largely been concentrated in specific regions, resulting in the migration of talent from underserved areas. “We have talented artistes, dedicated producers, and passionate entrepreneurs working in isolation rather than in concert,” she said. “Through this partnership, we will develop regional music hubs equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and provide funding support. This initiative will reduce talent drain and foster the growth of regional music industries, ensuring that creative opportunities are accessible nationwide.”

The minister further stated that the ministry was focused on establishing infrastructure and systems that would empower Nigerian creatives to compete on the global stage. “Together, we are committing to building the infrastructure, systems, and opportunities that will allow Nigerian creatives to thrive at home and compete globally,” Musawa added. She also announced plans to build small-scale live arenas across the country to provide essential performance spaces for artistes.

“The talent development programmes we’re launching will nurture the next generation of creators, while enhanced distribution channels will connect Nigerian content with global audiences.” Musawa concluded by reiterating the government’s commitment to building a creative economy that both honours Nigeria’s cultural heritage and embraces innovation.

“We will build a creative economy that works for everyone — one that preserves our cultural heritage while embracing innovation, and that celebrates Nigeria’s diversity while presenting a unified creative identity to the world,” she said. This initiative is a significant step towards promoting the growth and development of Nigeria’s creative industry.

The partnership between the Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy and Chocolate City Group will have numerous benefits for Nigerian artistes. The development of regional music hubs will provide artistes with access to state-of-the-art facilities, enabling them to produce high-quality music. The funding support will also enable artistes to pursue their creative projects without financial constraints.

The initiative will also have a positive impact on the creative industry as a whole. The growth of regional music industries will contribute to the country’s economic development, creating jobs and generating revenue. The promotion of Nigerian culture and creativity will also enhance the country’s cultural identity and reputation globally.

In conclusion, the Federal Government’s pledge to support Nigerian artistes with funding and infrastructure development is a welcome development. The partnership between the Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy and Chocolate City Group will promote the growth and development of Nigeria’s creative industry, enabling artistes to thrive and compete globally. With the government’s commitment to building a creative economy that preserves Nigeria’s cultural heritage while embracing innovation, the future of Nigeria’s creative industry looks bright.
