Soaring into Adventure: The 2025 Kwahu Easter Paragliding Festival Takes Flight

The 2025 Kwahu Easter Paragliding Festival has officially commenced, transforming the serene Odweanoma Mountains in Atibie-Kwahu into a hub of aerial excitement and cultural celebration. From April 18 to April 21, thrill-seekers and tourists from around the globe will gather to experience the exhilaration of paragliding amidst Ghana's picturesque landscapes.

A Skyward Tradition

Since its inception, the Kwahu Easter Paragliding Festival has become a cornerstone of Ghana's tourism calendar, attracting both local and international adventure enthusiasts. The 2025 edition promises to uphold this legacy, offering attendees the chance to soar above the lush terrains of the Eastern Region, with take-offs from the Odweanoma Mountain and landings at the Nkawkaw Stadium.

Global Pilots, Local Aspirations

This year's festival features seven seasoned tandem pilots, including Ghana's own Jonathan Quaye, alongside international experts from the USA, Germany, Romania, and Peru.  Their participation not only ensures a safe and thrilling experience for flyers but also highlights Ghana's commitment to fostering local talent in the adventure tourism sector.

Recognizing the importance of building local capacity, the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has initiated plans to train more Ghanaian pilots. This move aims to reduce reliance on foreign expertise and empower Ghanaian youth to take active roles in the burgeoning adventure tourism industry.

Beyond the Skies: A Festive Atmosphere

While paragliding remains the festival's centerpiece, attendees can look forward to a plethora of ground activities designed to entertain and engage. The GTA has introduced various games, including ludo, oware, and skating, alongside a dedicated children's playground, ensuring fun for the entire family.

Additionally, cultural performances, music, and local cuisine stalls will provide a rich tapestry of Ghanaian heritage, allowing visitors to immerse themselves fully in the nation's vibrant traditions.

Addressing Infrastructure Challenge

Despite the festival's success, concerns have been raised regarding the condition of roads leading to the paragliding site. Attendees and local drivers have highlighted the need for infrastructural improvements to enhance accessibility and safety. The GTA acknowledges these concerns and is collaborating with relevant authorities to address them, ensuring a smoother experience for future festivals.

Looking Ahead

As the 2025 Kwahu Easter Paragliding Festival unfolds, it not only offers exhilarating experiences but also underscores Ghana's dedication to promoting adventure tourism and cultural exchange. With initiatives to train local pilots and enhance festival infrastructure, the GTA is laying the groundwork for a sustainable and inclusive tourism future.
