UEW EXPELS POSTGRADUATE STUDENT OVER MAJOR ADMISSION, CERTIFICATE FRAUD"

The University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has been rocked by a scandal involving a postgraduate student who orchestrated an elaborate scheme of academic fraud. The suspect, Frank Anderson, a student pursuing an MPhil in Special Education, has been expelled from the university and is now facing legal action for his role in a widespread operation that targeted unsuspecting individuals across multiple towns.

An official statement from UEW revealed that Frank Anderson was the mastermind behind a criminal network that issued fake admission letters, forged certificates, and manipulated academic results for a fee. Victims were deceived into believing he had the power to influence academic outcomes and secure university admission through special arrangements dubbed "Protocol Admissions." These fraudulent services were offered for sums ranging from GHS 1,000 to GHS 3,000.

His activities were not confined to the university's main campus. He operated across Suhum, Mangoase, Nsawam, and Winneba, expanding his fraudulent scheme far beyond the university's radar for a considerable time. The university's internal investigation, however, eventually brought the truth to light. Though Anderson and his team never managed to penetrate UEW’s secure grading platform, known as OSIS 2, they skillfully crafted fake PDF transcripts and forged WASSCE certificates that looked convincingly genuine.

As part of the disciplinary measures, all students who were found to have gained admission through these illegal means have had their admissions revoked. Those who paid to have their grades altered have also been withdrawn, further emphasising the university’s firm stand against academic dishonesty.

Currently, Frank Anderson is in custody and facing trial at the Winneba High Court on multiple charges, including extortion, document falsification, and impersonation. The university has distanced itself from his actions, making it clear that he acted entirely on his own without any official backing or connection to legitimate university operations.

UEW's management has reiterated its unwavering commitment to upholding academic integrity and protecting the credibility of its qualifications. In the statement, the university assured stakeholders and the public that it will continue to work closely with law enforcement to bring all accomplices to justice and prevent any future breaches of this nature.

The entire episode has drawn attention from across the educational sector, sparking discussions around the vulnerability of students and institutions to such schemes. It also highlights the urgent need for continuous vigilance, transparency, and public awareness regarding admission procedures in higher learning institutions. With investigations ongoing, the university community remains committed to restoring confidence in its processes and safeguarding its reputation.
