ATIKU BLASTS TINUBU OVER ESCALATING INSECURITY: “YOU’RE GALLIVANTING WHILE NIGERIA BLEEDS”

Former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has once again voiced his concerns over the deteriorating security situation in Nigeria this time, directing sharp criticism at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a strongly worded statement released on Sunday, Atiku condemned the President’s recent international trips amid growing violence and unrest across the country. According to the former VP, Tinubu’s continuous travels abroad show a “lack of seriousness” and a “disconnect from the realities on ground.”

> “Our President is gallivanting across Europe while Nigeria bleeds daily,” Atiku said. “This is not leadership. We are in a crisis.”

Atiku’s remarks come in the wake of multiple deadly attacks across Nigeria, particularly in the northern and central regions. States like Benue, Plateau, and Kaduna have witnessed fresh rounds of violence, including banditry, kidnappings, and communal clashes. In Plateau alone, over 50 lives were lost last week due to suspected herder-farmer violence.

Citing these developments, Atiku called for the declaration of a national state of emergency on insecurity, stating that decisive action is long overdue. He also challenged the administration to deploy more troops to affected areas and improve intelligence gathering.

> “It is unacceptable that Nigerians cannot sleep with both eyes closed. We must admit the country is at war within, and we need bold leadership to fix it.”

Meanwhile, supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have responded to Atiku’s comments, labeling them as “politically motivated.” A spokesperson for the presidency stated that President Tinubu is actively working with security agencies to restore peace and that his foreign engagements are aimed at attracting investment, which will indirectly help Nigeria’s economy and stability.

Still, many Nigerians on social media have echoed Atiku’s frustration. Hashtags like #NigeriaBleeds and #TinubuDoSomething have been trending on X (formerly Twitter), with citizens demanding urgent reforms in the security sector.

As insecurity continues to affect lives and livelihoods, this renewed political clash between Atiku and Tinubu has once again raised the question: who will truly take responsibility for Nigeria’s peace and safety?
