"NPP Denies Release of Prof. Oquaye Committee Report Amidst Transparency Concerns"

In the wake of its 2024 electoral defeat, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has come under scrutiny for its decision to withhold the report compiled by the Prof. Mike Oquaye-led committee. The committee was established to investigate the factors contributing to the party's loss and to recommend strategies for future success.
The report was officially presented to the NPP's National Council on April 16, 2025, during a meeting at the Alisa Hotel in Accra. Prominent party figures, including former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and 2024 flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, were in attendance. Despite the significance of the findings, the party has chosen not to make the report public.
General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong has firmly denied claims that any portion of the report has been released or leaked. He labeled circulating quotes and alleged excerpts as "totally fake" and urged the public to disregard them. Frimpong emphasized that only one copy of the report exists, which was submitted to the National Council, and no directives have been given for its dissemination.
This stance has drawn criticism from political analysts and observers. Dr. Jonathan Asante Okyere, a political science lecturer at the University of Cape Coast, suggested that the NPP's reluctance to publish the report might be an attempt to shield influential individuals whose actions contributed to the electoral loss. He argued that transparency is crucial for the party's rebuilding process and that withholding the report could hinder genuine reform efforts.
In response to the report's findings, the NPP has established a nine-member committee tasked with reviewing the party's constitution. This move aims to address structural issues and implement recommendations from the Oquaye Committee to strengthen the party's framework ahead of future elections.
As the NPP navigates its post-defeat landscape, the decision to keep the Oquaye Committee's report confidential continues to spark debate. Balancing internal deliberations with public accountability remains a challenge for the party as it seeks to regain trust and chart a path forward.
