The Ghana Armed Forces have once again demonstrated their commitment to restoring peace and stability in Bawku and its surroundings through a successful cordon and search operation. This operation, carried out in the early hours of Monday, 21 April 2025, follows a series of violent clashes and intermittent gunfire that have heightened tensions in the region in recent weeks.

Troops stationed at Binduri responded swiftly when they heard sporadic gunshots emanating from the Binduri Central Market area. Without delay, a team comprising personnel from the 11 Mechanised Battalion and the Joint Task Force, supported by the Ghana Police Service, launched a coordinated operation to cordon off the area and carry out thorough searches. Their rapid response helped prevent potential escalation and ensured that those responsible for the gunfire were pursued.

During the operation, security forces apprehended a suspected gunman who has since been handed over to the Police for further investigation. In addition to the arrest, the troops made a significant discovery of arms and ammunition. Items retrieved included an AK-47 rifle, a G3 rifle, one empty M16 rifle magazine, 370 rounds of M16 and AK-47 ammunition, 128 rounds of G3 ammunition, a machete, four fragmentation jackets, a pair of boots, and one helmet. This cache suggests an organised attempt to fuel conflict and unrest in the area, and its removal from circulation marks a major win for security efforts.

Later in the day, unidentified gunmen made an attempt to infiltrate Binduri, possibly to disrupt the calm or retaliate. However, vigilant military personnel on patrol were able to intercept the infiltration attempt, resulting in an exchange of gunfire. The gunmen, outmatched by the well-prepared troops, fled the scene, leaving behind no casualties among the security personnel. Their quick withdrawal signals the strong deterrent posed by the military presence in the area.

The Ghana Armed Forces have confirmed that the current security situation in Binduri and Bawku is under control, with troops remaining on high alert. Their presence continues to provide assurance to the local population, and they have reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to working closely with other security agencies to ensure peace is fully restored.

Residents have been urged to cooperate with ongoing security operations and to report any suspicious activity as efforts continue to return the area to full normalcy. The public's trust and involvement are crucial in ensuring that communities remain safe and secure for all.

Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quashie, Director General of Public Relations for the Ghana Armed Forces, issued the official release and called on media platforms and the general public to support the accurate dissemination of information regarding security activities. The presence of the military in Bawku stands as a visible sign of the government’s dedication to restoring order and protecting its citizens.
