Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Victor Osimhen for a low fee. Head coach Ruben Amorim is looking to strengthen his forward line at Old Trafford during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Manchester United are pursuing a £40 million deal to sign Victor Osimhen this summer. Ruben Amorim, United's manager, has identified Osimhen, a Napoli forward presently on loan at Galatasaray, as his top striker transfer target this summer.
United have struggled for goals this season, and Amorim believes 26-year-old Osimhen is the ideal candidate to remedy that problem. In addition to his established scoring prowess (he has 29 goals from 34 games this season), Osimhen is entering the final year of his contract with Napoli.
That means Napoli must sell him or risk losing him for nothing next year, with United - who are under financial constraints due to profit and sustainability requirements - convinced they can sign the Nigeria international for a cost significantly lower than his market worth.
Osimhen matches the age profile at United, as co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants to build a squad of young players who can grow together while still having resale value. United are also considering Ipswich striker Liam Delap, who will be available for £30 million this summer, but Amorim is said to prefer a move for Osimhen due to his better experience and proven ability to score in Europe.
Osimhen is not only a prolific goalscorer, but he also has Champions League experience, having led Napoli to their first league title in 33 years. Osimhen would not be put off by the idea of leading United's attack, which has proven too much for £72 million signing Rasmus Hojlund, who has one goal in his past 28 games for Amorim's side.
With Joshua Zirkzee out for the season, Amorim has no choice but to keep Hojlund as United's attacking leader, though the Portuguese manager has experimented with Kobbie Mainoo in a more advanced role.
United, who are also hoping to recruit Matheus Cunha from Wolves, will want to sell players this summer to help bankroll Amorim's roster overhaul, with Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Antony all expected to leave, as well as Casemiro and Alejandro Garnacho if the correct price is offered.
Earlier this month, Amorim emphasized the significance of the summer transfer window. The head coach stated, "There are some attributes that we do not have in our group, and we are looking into the holes.
