Al Nassr Return to Winning Ways in 29th Saudi Pro League Match
Al Nassr got back to winning ways in their 29th Saudi Pro League match of the season after a recent loss to Al-Qadsiah. In a dramatic fixture, they secured a narrow 3–2 win against Damac FC.
Damac opened the scoring in the 18th minute through R. Sawlan. There was no response from either side for the remainder of the first half. However, in the second half, Aymeric Laporte equalized for Al Nassr in the 70th minute. Just minutes later, Al-Hassan added a second goal to give Al Nassr the lead. Damac responded with an equalizer in the 73rd minute, making it 2–2.
The match was ultimately decided in stoppage time, as Al Nassr’s Al-Ghannam scored a last-minute winner in the 94th minute, sealing all three points.
With five matches to go, Al Nassr currently sit 3rd in the league with 60 points—2 points behind Al Hilal and 8 points behind league leaders Al Ittihad. While winning the title is still mathematically possible, it would require both Al Hilal and Al Ittihad to drop significant points, making it an unlikely outcome.
Notably, this is the first season since Cristiano Ronaldo joined Al Nassr that they have managed to beat fierce rivals Al Hilal, although the result ultimately had no bearing on the title race. Unfortunately for Al Nassr, they now find themselves trailing behind a dominant Al Ittihad side.
Coach Luís Castro appears to be shifting focus toward the AFC Champions League Elite. This was evident in the lineup against Damac, as he chose to rest key players Cristiano Ronaldo and Sadio Mané in preparation for their crucial match against Yokohama F. Marinos on April 26.
Meanwhile, Al Nassr could still influence the title race directly as they face Al Ittihad in one of their remaining league fixtures.
