Clean Up or Pay the Price – Ablekuma North Speaks Out

In a bold call to action, the Ablekuma North Municipal Assembly (MCD) is urging all residents to change their attitude towards the environment. As Accra continues to struggle with waste management and sanitation issues, this latest move signals a no-nonsense approach to tackling one of Ghana's most persistent problems: improper waste disposal.

According to officials from the Assembly, the level of filth in some communities is simply unacceptable. Residents continue to dump refuse into gutters, burn waste openly, and neglect basic cleanliness, despite the clear health hazards and environmental damage. In the words of the MCD boss, “We cannot keep cleaning after people who refuse to take responsibility.”

🌍 Environmental awareness in Accra is more than just a campaign slogan – it’s a survival strategy. With the rainy season approaching, blocked drains and choked gutters pose a major flood risk. This isn’t just about sanitation anymore; it’s about saving lives and protecting property. The Assembly is calling on the public to take charge of their surroundings by joining clean-up exercises, sorting their waste, and reporting violators.

“Clean Accra campaign” is trending again for a reason. The message is clear: we can’t wait for the government alone to fix our problems. Everyone—from households to shop owners—has a role to play. Community leaders are also being called upon to educate their people on the dangers of poor sanitation.

🚮 The Ablekuma North Assembly has hinted at stricter enforcement and possible sanctions for repeat offenders. That means if you’re caught dumping refuse illegally or burning waste, you could face hefty fines or even prosecution. It’s no longer business as usual.

This new push also ties in with Ghana’s broader “Green Ghana” initiative and climate-resilient strategies. Cleaner communities not only reduce the risk of diseases like cholera and malaria but also improve mental well-being and attract investment into neighborhoods. Yes, a cleaner Accra can drive economic growth!

The Assembly is also collaborating with schools, churches, and local businesses to boost environmental education. Expect to see more youth-led clean-up drives, educational talks, and “keep Ghana clean” posters all over town. The goal? To spark a change in behavior from the ground up.

💡 So what can you do? Start small. Separate your plastics from organics. Sweep your frontage daily. Join or start a clean-up group. And most importantly, don’t wait for someone else to fix the mess—own your space. This is our city, our environment, and our future.

Let’s make “Ghana sanitation news” about success stories, not ongoing crises. Ablekuma North has spoken—will you listen?
