With Ruben Amorim's Red Devils in serious need of change, Manchester United might seek to those players with appetising release clauses this summer to stem the all-encompassing rot.

When it comes to summer reinforcements, Ruben Amorim and Manchester United may look for superstars with intriguing release clauses in their contracts.

As the Portuguese head coach's inaugural season comes to a close, the results have been disappointing. Since replacing Erik ten Hag, Amorim has won only six top-flight games, drew five and lost 11. His team is on track for an all-time lowest Premier League result, presently sitting in 14th.

If it weren't for a probable Europa League victory - a semi-final against Athletic Club is quickly coming - the season would be over. Looking ahead to the summer transfer window, it is clear that new signings are required. The Red Devils will most certainly offer their 40-year-old boss some new instruments to work with, and Mirror Football takes a look at some of the players whose release clauses might be activated before they join Manchester United.

Liam Delap

Ipswich Town bought Liam Delap for £15 million in summer 2024 to improve their top-flight performance. Still, once their destiny is set and relegation to the Championship is guaranteed, he could potentially go for simply treble that amount.

Liam Delap has 12 Premier League goals to his record, propelling him into the spotlight of elite English clubs. His all-around play has made the ex-Manchester City youth star a coveted commodity, and it was reported earlier this month that if his present club gets relegated, a £30 million release clause in the five-year contract he signed a year ago will become activated.

Jeremiah Frimpong
The usage of marauding wingbacks is an important, although now problematic, component of Amorim's style at Old Trafford. At their former club, Sporting CP, wide play helped the Portuguese win two historic league titles.

Unfortunately, the mix of Diogo Dalot, Noussair Mazraoui, newcomer Patrick Dorgu, and regularly sidelined Luke Shaw hasn't cut it thus far. So much so that young players like Harry Amass, who impressed in their most recent 1-0 defeat to Wolves, are being given an opportunity at the position.

Few wing-backs in Europe have the searing pace and technical genius of Bayer Leverkusen's Jeremie Frimpong, another ex-City academy hero who might leave this summer due to a lucrative release clause.
