WHY THE KUSAUG STRONGHOLD REMAINS UNSHAKEN AMID POLITICAL TALKS

A fresh wave of reactions has swept across Kusaug following an audio released by Zieko, igniting passionate discussions among the people. While the content of the audio has drawn mixed interpretations, a common response from listeners appears to be one of reassurance rather than concern. Many believe that the audio has only served to reinforce the already established position of the Kusaug people regarding the current political tensions in the area.

Contrary to what the audio suggests, voices from within Kusaug remain confident that the Mamprusi faction has experienced a total and irreversible defeat within the region. This sentiment stems not from current negotiations but from historical and political realities that have gradually solidified Kusaug’s hold over Bawku. From the community’s perspective, the idea of Mamprusis ever ruling or dividing Kusaug territory is not only improbable but also logistically and politically unworkable.

The situation at the Bawku Municipal Assembly during a recent vote exemplifies the restricted state of Mamprusi political activity in the area. According to observers, Mamprusi Assembly members were reportedly transported under tight security in a manner that highlighted the deep mistrust and heightened security risks surrounding their presence. Described by witnesses as being moved in FPU vehicles and quickly returned to their base, their visibility and influence in civic engagements appear significantly curtailed.

This development is perceived by some as a reflection of their diminishing political reach and the isolation they now face within Bawku. Since the return of Seidu Abagre, a key figure in the Kusaug political landscape, the limitations placed on Mamprusi movements have only grown more apparent. These restrictions, backed by persistent blockades, have limited their access to broader engagement and have effectively confined them within certain boundaries under constant escort.

For many Kusaas, these actions are seen not as temporary measures but as a strategic response to past events and a firm stance against any external claims to local governance. There is also strong sentiment that any ongoing mediation, including that led by Otumfuor, holds significance only for the Mamprusi side, whose future in Bawku may hinge on the outcome. Kusaas believe they have already secured their position through years of resilience and assertiveness.

The mediation, in the eyes of many within Kusaug, will only serve one of two purposes: to either affirm the current status quo or provoke further resistance if attempts are made to alter it in favour of the Mamprusis. In either case, the Kusaug population appears unified in their resolve and undeterred by external pressures or political manoeuvres.

While regional leaders and mediators continue efforts towards a peaceful resolution, the people of Kusaug remain grounded in their beliefs. The message from many voices across the land is clear: the identity, control, and unity of Kusaug are not up for negotiation.
