Zico’s Libya-Based Audio Sparks Fear and Urgent Calls for Calm in Kusaug

Tensions in the Kusaug Traditional Area have taken a worrying turn following a formal report by Mahama Ayariga, Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, regarding a series of alarming social media audios attributed to a man known as “Zico.” The MP has officially written to the Cyber Security Authority of Ghana and the Libyan Embassy in Accra, requesting swift action over what he describes as dangerous incitement to violence by Zico, a Ghanaian national believed to be based in Libya.

According to the MP’s report, Zico, whose Libyan mobile number is listed as +218928813242, has consistently used social media to make false allegations against him and other political leaders from the Kusaug Traditional Area. Of grave concern are Zico’s calls for violence and his apparent attempts to spark ethnic conflict between the Kusasis and Mamprusis. In one of his audios, Zico alleges that Mahama Ayariga conspired with former President John Dramani Mahama to partition the districts of Bawku West, Bawku Municipality, Pusiga, Timpane, and Garu—claims that have no known basis and are viewed as extremely provocative.

Zico is accused of urging people to arm themselves and take violent action against Kusasi leaders, naming specific individuals and painting a false narrative of betrayal and conspiracy. These actions have alarmed both the political leadership and peace-loving citizens of Kusaug, who fear that such unfounded and inflammatory claims could ignite further instability in an already fragile area.

The MP has called for collaboration between Ghanaian and Libyan intelligence services to track and extradite Zico for questioning. The letter stresses the need for accountability, especially given the seriousness of the allegations and the potential consequences for peace in the region. His call is not merely to silence a voice, but to ensure that facts are established and that no one feels emboldened to instigate conflict with impunity.

As this situation unfolds, the voices of young people within Kusaug are beginning to surface. One youth, reflecting on recent developments, expressed deep worry over the apparent division growing even among Kusasis themselves. He questioned the direction things are heading and pleaded for unity, sanity, and focus among the youth. He observed that while no official petition has been sent to the police against Mamprusi individuals accused of threats, energy is instead being channelled towards internal discord.

He urged his peers to shift their focus from political provocations to practical matters—finding ways to earn a living and care for their families. According to him, it is crucial for the youth to resist being used as pawns in a broader political or ethnic struggle that does not benefit them in the long run.

In this moment of uncertainty, the call for restraint and critical thinking has never been more urgent. The people of Kusaug must hold on to the shared values of peace and progress, even as investigations unfold and authorities respond to the disturbing revelations linked to Zico’s audio.
