A wave of reactions has swept across Kusaug following the recent call by Mahama Ayariga, Member of Parliament for Bawku Central and Majority Leader, for the arrest and possible extradition of Zico, a Ghanaian residing in Libya. Zico, who has been active on social media with controversial audios, is now the subject of an official complaint made to the Cyber Security Authority and the Libyan Embassy in Ghana by the MP.
Many youth from Kusaug have taken to social media to express deep disappointment and concern about the MP’s decision. They argue that Ayariga's move appears selective, pointing out that several individuals, including Abiola, T Blow Nash, and others, who are based in Ghana, have also made inflammatory statements, yet have never faced similar calls for arrest. These critics question why such energy is not channelled towards addressing those whose actions are clearly visible and accessible within the country.
Voices from the youth lament the internal division being fostered within the Kusaug community. They say the move by Ayariga signals a worrying trend where leaders are quick to turn against their own, even before seeking family or traditional channels to resolve matters. Some feel that if the MP had concerns about Zico, he could have reached out personally or involved the Zugraan, rather than initiating an international process.
This response by the youth highlights a broader frustration about perceived double standards. They recall how, during the election period, audios and commentary from individuals like Zico were allegedly used in favour of Ayariga and his allies, yet now he stands accused of abandoning the very individuals who once supported him vocally. The situation has sparked emotional conversations around loyalty, justice, and leadership within the Kusaug area.
There is also the pressing matter of unresolved threats against Kusaug leaders by others who remain untouched. Some youth cite repeated insults and incitement from opponents of Kusaug on various platforms, yet claim no corresponding action has been taken by Ayariga or relevant authorities. For them, this makes the call for Zico’s arrest appear inconsistent and politically motivated.
The youth are not only angry but also feeling betrayed, suggesting that actions such as these only serve to embolden opponents and worsen internal disunity. Many believe that whatever grievances exist between Zico and the leadership, they should have been handled with caution, understanding, and through traditional conflict resolution methods. Some warn that prematurely exposing and isolating voices like Zico could have lasting consequences, especially if any of his claims later prove valid.
Calls have now grown louder for Kusaug leaders to unite and seek more inclusive and diplomatic solutions to internal conflicts. The focus, according to the youth, should be on building peace and empowering the next generation to be productive citizens, rather than escalating tensions. They urge the leadership to reflect, reconcile, and refocus on the collective wellbeing of Kusaug.
